Lobbying
The chapter uses a variety of techniques to influence public officials.
E-mail alerts. Members can receive action alerts by e-mail. This is the most prominent method used by the chapter for keeping its network informed.
Personal meetings. Chapter members have met with elected officials and their aides to promote peace issues.
Bird-dogging. Chapter members raise questions and issues with elected officials at town meetings and other gatherings.
Postcard campaigns. Professionally printed postcards are used for nationally-coordinated campaigns to influence Congress.
Letters-to-the-editor. Chapter members are encouraged to submit letters to the editor to The Capital-Gazette Newspapers, The Sun and The Post about peace issues and to call talk radio shows.
Paid media. The chapter has aired radio and cable television advertisements for the purpose of influencing the general public on certain issues. Examples: handgun control, military spending, nuclear disarmament, Contra aid, and the Persian Gulf war. The chapter also placed signs on Annapolis City buses decrying excessive Pentagon expenditures, as the photo shows.
