Anne Arundel Peace Action is the local chapter of the nation's largest grassroots peace and disarmament organization. Nationally, Peace Action has more than 100,000 members. The Anne Arundel chapter, which was founded in 1982, represents approximately 300 households.

We have received awards from our national organization for our visibility in promoting peace and justice in one of the most military oriented communities in the East and for our efforts at diversifying our membership racially and ethnically.

There is a chapter get-together on the 3rd Tuesday evening of each month which is open to all. This is a social, informal occasion at which members get together for dinner at a local restaurant to talk over local, state, national and world affairs.

When: 10 am-4 pm, Saturday, November 17, 2018

Where: Goucher College,  1021 Dulaney Valley Road, Baltimore, MD 21204

This conference will bring together activists, students, experts, and other citizens to examine how we can work collaboratively in Maryland to reduce the threat of nuclear war and use the resources being wasted on their development for critical human needs.

REGISTER now as space is limited!!!

Plenary speakers include:

  • Daryl G. Kimball—Executive Director, Arms Control Association
  • Ira Helfand, former co- president, International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War
  • Vincent Intondi, Montgomery College professor and author of  African Americans Against the Bomb
  • Ray Acheson, Director, Reaching Critical Will/Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom

In conference workshops, you will get an opportunity to join the discussion of what we in Maryland can do--in Congress, the Maryland General Assembly, and Maryland towns and counties.  For a copy of the conference program, click here.

There is no cost to attend, and lunch will be served free of charge, although you need to register in advance. Contributions will be gratefully received.

The conference comes at a time when the United States plans to spend $1.7 trillion (yes, that figure is right) on new and upgraded nuclear weapons systems, effectively ensuring an arms race with Russia and China.  Not only is this action a threat to global safety, it also will rob funds from vital programs, such as affordable housing, public transit, public education, health care, and environmental protection.  In addition, the Trump administration has rolled out a national strategy policy that envisions possible battlefield use of nuclear weapons.  And under U.S. law, the president has sole authority to initiate a nuclear strike.

Register now to ensure your place at this important and seminal conference. And please spread the word about this event to others in your network whom you think might be interested.  This is no time for complacency.

Sponsors of the conference include Maryland Peace Action Network (including Anne Arundel Peace Action),  Goucher College Peace Studies Program, Prevent Nuclear War/MD, Chesapeake Physicians for Social Responsibility,  Arms Control Association, Women’s Action for New Directions, Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, National Lawyers’ Guild/MD, Progressive Democrats of America/MD, Institute for Race, Justice and Civic Engagement, Bethesda Friends Meeting, Popular Resistance, and others.
